Hey guy’s the Motorola Edge X30 is not only the first smartphone to release with a 60 megapixel selfie camera but the world’s incorporate qualcomm’s first four nanometer process knot technology driven chipset the snapdragon 8 gen 1 and it does so at a veritably good price point this is indeed the phone the global launch is worth mentioning that there’s also a special edition of the phone that’s exactly the same as the one I have with me then moment away from the fact that it houses an under display selfie camera but a release date for this interpretation is still unclear in the box we find a silicon case a usb type c to type c charging string as well as a 68 watt charging slipup and yes the phone can indeed charge at 68 watts and now it’s time to unwrap this early christmas gift the edge X30 comes in two main colors that being shadow blue or snow white I have the shadow blue color with me moment phenomenal thanks to its matte back finish really pressing the shadow blue color also really like that bubble pull- shaped camera bump on the reverse which looks enough fantastic slighting on that silicon case that comes included in the box it looks alright it’s good enough for day one I guess you could say keeps it nice and protected but I do suggest switching up to a different case in the future if you do decide to pick up an edge X30 for yourself it looks absolutely fantastic at the reverse but what about all the tackle that sits underneath we have a 5000 milliamp hour battery which isn’t a binary cell battery it can be juiced up from zero to 100 in 35 twinkles thanks to that 68 watt wide charging there’s unfortunately no wireless charging of course we’ve that awful four nanometer snapdragon 8 integrated adreno 730 gpu but we’ll touch more on that latterly setting aside that’s the lpddr5 ram modules and ufs3.1 storehouse and of course we are also treated to the new x65 5g modem which sits inside the new snapdragon chipset the front and reverse of the device are carpeted with goon glass 5 and yes we do supposedly have aluminum frames though they do feel fairly plastic to me millimeters in consistence and 194 grams in weight within that cute little camera bubbles it’s a brutal 50 megapixel isos cell gn5 ultra wide detector as well as a 50 megapixel omnivision ov50a main detector and the third lens is a 2 megapixel depth detector it’s also worth mentioning that the snapdragon 8 gen1 chipset also aids in the camera department by adding the image signal processor’s capability to read data four thousand percent briskly than last generation which input allows for 8k hdr plus video recording 4k cinematic or portrayal video recording as well and commodity called mega night mode which offers up to five times enhancement in night photography all of which I haven’t seen available in moto’s new flagship the ultra wide camera at native 50 megapixels looks okay burn down looks a laddie more12.5 megapixels the main 50 megapixel shot also looks okay you got to remember that this day was enough heavy so you’ve got to forgive it it’s had but two times digital drone over then no optic drone because there’s unfortunately no blow-up lens included in the package then we can go all the way up to 10 times digital drone and we can shoot at 50 megapixel up to 10 times as well has been down to12.5 megapixel also at 10 times zoom we can also take filmland of prints close up and switch on the bokeh portrayal effect which looks okay i guess you could say and we do have a macro mode no macro detector however but the macro mode looks okay I guess you could say since it utilizes the ultra-wide camera also exercising the ultra-wide camera is the macro mode video it’s cool that we have macro video but there is no portrayal or cinematic video which is actually what’s employed within the new snapdragon chipset and we do have 8k at 24 frames per alternate video hdr 10 plus video recording which formerly again is a new point of the new snapdragon chip 4k 30 fps is another option then the biggest bummer for me is there’s no 60 frames per second not on 4k and not on 1080p not indeed on 720p and 720p isn’t indeed an option if that is what you’d like to record at which is a bit of a bummer and it really struggles with different lighting conditions going lighter and brighter situation ultrawide is also limited at 1080p and 30 fps and does not indeed have a 4k option for ultrawide stabilization off on the left and stabilization on on the right over then i am jiggling the phone at the exact same pace over there so the stabilization works fairly well 8k 24 frames per second at night looks enough bad I mean you could see a lot of piebald light patches I would say it looks the worst but 4k 30 fps is enough much over there with the worst night video recording I have ever seen in my it’s like it’s nearly like ultramodern chrome until you go down to the lights and it takes a nanosecond to acclimate itself but still looks enough bad prints and vids aren’t this phone’s strong suit that’s for sure 1080p 30 fps ultrawide I can forgive it for this one since utmost phones struggle with ultra-wide video recording but at 30 frames per second this is veritably veritably dumb it should be a lot brighter talking about ultrawide the ultrawide knights off night on feature the night on feature does not look the best and the new chipset actually allows for up to five times improvement in night time photography with night mode features within smartphones and Motorola has seriously dropped the ball over here where it could have done an absolutely superb job i feel like they’ve cut some especially night time photography they took a little bit longer and didn’t rush the device could have looked a hell of a lot better night mode off with a close subject here buzz again night mode on once again very grainy very blurry bokeh portrait there is no night mode option for portrait it looks alright and then we do have macro mode no night mode option for macro mode but once again a bit fuzzy but it still does an okay job i guess these cameras are okay they’re not flagship material they don’t deserve to have a nice 15 megapixel ois staple on the back anyway we do have a fingerprint sensor as well as the power button and volume rock on the right hand side my key on the left hand side which we’ll get to it’s had later dual sim 5g standby no expandable storage and we do have a water resistant seal which is a plus usb 3.1 type c port the first dual speaker at the bottom which sports dolby atmos and the second one is found within the earpiece and now we have the 60 megapixel selfie camera the special edition is exactly the same as this phone except that 60 megapixel selfie camera is actually hidden underneath the display taking a look at the 16 megapixel selfie.
The brand new Motorola edge x 30 let me know what you guys think of the selfie video as well as the selfie audio recording when recording a selfie video on the new moto edge x30 and for those interested parties out there who’d like to see 1080p selfie video recording here it is it seems to zoom out a little bit more when compared to the 4k video aspect i’m assuming this is also sitting at 30 frames per second on the plus side be it at 30 fps that is but it’s still and unfortunately we don’t have 60 fps 1080p recording which is something that within 2022. 15 megapixel selfie at night with no night mode since there’s no option looks okay flash on looks okay and bokeh portrait also no night mode option it looks decent i guess you could say the selfie camera is once again a bit of a mixed bag if you ask me and moving on to better things which is actually powering on the device hello moto okay moving on from that no always on display we have something called a peak display and while there is a side fingerprint sensor it is extremely hard to reach it’s nice and snappy but it would have been a lot better at the center of the phone since this is quite a tall long and big and bulky phone well not too bulky it’s pretty skinny actually if you ask me but it’s too high up they should have addressed this issue before releasing the phone and we do have 2d facial recognition over here though there is no double tap feature for it to work and within the new qualcomm 8 gen1 chipset there’s actually a feature that can always keep your selfie camera looking at you meaning that you could unlock your phone using face id without even touching the device and they’ve completely disregarded this on the front we do have a 6.7 inch oled 20 by 9 aspect ratio flat dot display of course the special edition does have that selfie cam underneath the display it is full hd plus with a ppi of 393. there is one billion colors over here 700 nits of max brightness 144 hertz screen refresh rates and 576 hertz touch sampling rates the colors are pretty snazzy i mean it is a motorola edge so you would expect there to be curves on it since that’s what the first motorola edge was all about nevertheless it’s a flat display minimal bezels trying to max out screen to body ratio which is a bit of a plus and of course adaptive 144 hertz though you can’t switch from 144 to 90 to 60 you have two options 60 hertz or 144 hertz and trust me 144 hertz is going to be eating up your battery life but this is a four nanometer run device thanks to the snapdragon 8 gen1 chipsets so it surely should be pretty decent in terms of efficiency when it comes to battery we’ll check that out later other than being at 144 and switching to 60 we do have a couple other display options that be in brightness flicker prevention which is always a bonus night lights for those who like to read at night as well as very basic color options and of course dark theme as well very basic options once again since this is very much stock android we’ll get to that in a sec dark mode looks pretty decent it affects your wallpaper and all the widgets and all that jazz which is nice and neat and flicking over to light mode again which is the setting that i prefer getting to the software which is actually my ui 3.0 honestly guys this is 95 stock android 12. this feels and looks exactly like my pixel 6 pro which is not a bad thing at all since i am absolutely in love with stock android there are a few gripes here and there but overall it looks visually pleasing and all the google goodies are in there including google assistant and yes that triggered using the my key on the left side which is an awesome feature i wish all phones had which allows you to yes use your google assistant if you’d like or change it to any other app that can quick open such as your covert health code if you have one of those in your country as well as opening up a simple task such as calculator which is always something that i tend to use pretty often since i’m not the best with math but the actual software itself is fantastic it has all the little features and nitty gritty things that you’ve come to know and love within stock android and the widgets look nice and neat you get all the pixel clock widgets too so you pretty much have a pixel for i don’t know a third of the price or half the personalization which is something that we’ve also seen new in android 12 we can choose between themes as well as wallpapers of course this will be different with different stock android wallpapers to choose from we can change colors and have them based on our wallpaper but it doesn’t automatically set them when you choose a new wallpaper you can change your font style as well as your icon shape which is pretty neat and your sound effects for different notifications as well as your screen size what you can see on it as well as transition from when it gets light to dark in the day your phone will get light and dark as well personalize your device it seems pretty cool you do have some moto features over here such as its clock widget which does a pretty decent job as well as slice your device in order to create a multitasking layer and you can switch between apps just like you usually do with your gestures which is pretty cool another little moto added feature and switch between apps at the bottom just holding down on the gesture bar sliding left to right which is great and of course we have device i guess you could say performance mode we do have ram boost over here though the three gigs additional that you can add onto it uses the ram and not the ram so that three additional gigs is mainly for holding apps in the background not necessarily for speed we also have overcharged protection in order to obviously protect your phone from being abused from your charger as well as optimized charging so that it only trickles through the last 20 just before you wake up and we do have ai health with that neat 60 megapixel selfie camera.
The best of the best that i’ve seen around and we do have dolby atmos which is integrated within the dual stereo speaker setup so how does it sound when compared to the mix 4 and s21 ultra when it comes to gaming we do have a motorola game time overlay which is pretty cool you can just switch to high performance and change the fps on the fly that’s pretty much it but more importantly there is a new ai system within the new snapdragon chipset which kicks in automatically and supposedly is four times more capable than last generation and utilizes something called ai powered sampling which is identical to nvidia’s dlss technology it automatically kicks in while gaming and boosts performance by rendering the game you are currently playing to a lower resolution and then upscales that game back to your display’s native resolution in order for your device to reach a higher frame rate this should not only yield higher fps in demanding games but also ease up on your cpu and gpu which will lead to longer battery life the first game that we’ll be running through today is gentian impact on its highest possible graphics settings and its maximum available frames per second the game is actually capped at 60 fps so bear that in mind that while the motorola does have a 144hz display it will always be capped at 60fps every device will because the game is capped at that and we’re getting between 53 and 61 fps which is actually pretty decent since most 2021 flagship phones running on a snapdragon 888 sit between frames of 30 to 50 fps next up we have bullet force with ultra graphics enabled and max frames per second the fps cap is unlimited so this phone with the new chipset and the new ai super sampling technology should not have any issues hertz but it is ranging between 120 and 128 fps same thing can be said for real racing 3 with an unlimited fps cap ranging between 125 and 127 frames per second now those gaming results that we just saw are not because of qualcomm’s new chipset well we can’t really figure that out just yet but i’m pretty sure it has to do with motorola rushing this device to get it out as well as poor optimization since the cpu has actually improved by 20 in terms of performance and 30 in terms of power efficiency and the integrated gpu has bumped up by 30 percent more in terms of graphics efficiency and now finally for what we’ve all been waiting for the benchmark results of this new chipset found within motorola’s latest hx30 of course we are checking out the temperature at the start of the test as well as the battery percentage we’ll compare this at the end to get the milliamp per minute result as well as the degrees in celsius increased we’re also going to be using moto game time over here flicking each benchmark on to high performance and 144 hertz modes first we ran through antutu version 9.2.5 then geekbench version 5.4.3 and now lastly we’re jumping 2.2.4792 and getting to the final battery drain results the device drained by 10 percent getting a crazy milliamp milliampere per minute drain off 31.25 and the temperature gain was even worse it actually doubled it went from 27.5 to 55 degrees in celsius adding 27.5 degrees in celsius but when it comes to results which is what most people care about the motorola edge x30 got a crazy antutu benchmark score of 990 214 which is shy of the recently seen and leaked over 1 million score but i’m pretty sure this phone should be able to do it i mean it’s just 10 000 points shy of a million and when it comes to geekbench version 5 the only phone that beat the new motorola is the iphone 13 pro max but it beat it by quite a bit after that obviously the motorola and then the snapdragon 8 plus the predecessor chip it got a lower single and multi-core score but honestly not by that much the snapdragon 8gen1 impressed me a bit in geekbench but i think it’s going to impress me a tad bit more in 3dmark wildlife and it does thanks to that new adreno 730 integrated 9894 points which is the highest i’ve ever seen with an average fps of 59.2 which is the first android phone that i’ve ever seen beaten iphone and beat the latest iphone 13 pro max that is which only got 57.5 frames per second and it was well above almost double the rest of the phones on the list the motorola edge x30 is an absolutely gorgeous looking device thanks to its frosted glass finish at the back which showcases its shadow blue color scheme in all its glory and while it has a subtle bubble of a camera bump that tucks neatly into its backplate its actual camera performance is quite lackluster the main and ultra wide cameras might have a high megapixel count and look decent in good lighting but the lack of 60 frames per second video recording and terrible nighttime results make the camera department a bit of a deal breaker for me not to mention the useless 2 megapixel depth sensor lack of a telephoto lens and complete disregard of what the new snapdragon chipset is actually capable of the fingerprint sensor is unfortunately not found underneath the display despite having an led panel and while the physical fingerprint reader is snappy it’s extremely hard to reach not to mention that facial recognition is pointless without a double tap feature and the oversight of the snapdragon 8 gen 1’s fourth isp to allow for face unlock without touching the device is a bit disheartening. The good news is that the device does come with android 12 out the box and is pretty much stock android with a few extra features that are actually useful the main selling points of the moto ajx30 is no doubt the four nanometer run snapdragon 8gen1 chipset that not only increases performance by a great amount but its integrated adreno 730 gpu sees a huge improvement and when paired with lpddr5 ram ufs 3.1 storage and a 144hz panel scrolls around like an absolute genius and games like a champion thanks to ai powered sampling but no thanks to motorola’s poor optimization of the new chipset the display while not being curved is gorgeous thanks to a 6.7 inch led panel with 1 billion colors but unfortunately lacks the brightness of other flagships around speaking of which i must say i’m quite disappointed with the 60 megapixel selfie performance i guess it’s true that a high megapixel count doesn’t exactly result in quality renders the moto edge x30 may lack quality camera performance a telephoto camera 60 fps video recording an ip water resistance rating a high resolution display and wireless charging which are features i have no doubt will be included in many upcoming flagships but the motorola edge x30 is and always will be the first smartphone to ship with the new snapdragon 8 gen1 chipset it may not have made use of all the new features qualcomm has to offer but first is still first and for that reason alone i can safely recommend this new moto to anyone who simply can’t wait to test our 2022 performance at a very very good price point but for most people i feel that waiting just another few weeks for the boatload of flagships that we’ll also be releasing with qualcomm’s latest chipset the smarter decision after all i’m sure most of those upcoming smartphones will cut a hell of a lot less corners than Motorola have done with their latest.
