Hey guys the Xiaomi 12 Pro is not only the first smartphone to release in 2022 but the world’s first mass- produced smartphone to use Sony’s new iMac 707 camera sensor and not only is this Xiaomi’s first phone to release with qualcomm’s new snapdragon 8 gen1 smartphone to release with a low temperature polycrystalline oxide display that can apparently stoutly refresh its display between 1 to 120 hertz and the Xiaomi 12 pro may very well be cheaper than last time’s mi 11 pro as well as the revolutionary mix 4 due to its lack of an under display selfie camera and ip water resistant rating but does its new triple 550 megapixel camera setup new display and latest flagship chipset from qualcomm justify its downsides let’s find out in this Xiaomi 12 Pro with Triple 50 Megapixel Camera 120Hz Amoled Display and Full Reviews relatively satisfying as well it makes it a little lighter too but a smidge thicker we will get to that in a seconds but as of right now the overall design I feel is the stylish looking xiaomi device I have ever laid my eyes on slapping on that back cover not so much since they still just include a silicon case in the box nonetheless it’s a silicon case it’s a free case it comes in the box but I do recommend using it without a case if you do decide to pick up the vegan leather version moving on to the actual specs inside of the phone it’s kitted with a 4600 milliamp hour battery and 120 watt wire charging 50 watt wireless charging with a new in house surge p1 charging chip of course it also has that brand new snapdragon 8 gen 1 chipset run on four nanometer process no technology but do bear in mind that this time around there’s no ip certification what has stuck around is the gorilla glass victus display and of course an aluminum frame the leather version is still thicker at 8.66 millimeters thick when compared to the glass box 8.16 though it’s one gram lighter at 204 as opposed to 205 grams and the only cut out at the reverse of that vegan leather finish is of course the new camera module and I must say it looks absolutely elegant we are accoutre with three 50 megapixel lenses here the ultrawide and telephoto lens both share the same sensor that being a Samsung isos cell jn1 sensor and the main camera is kitted with the brand new world’s first Sony Imax 707 sensor the main one is the only lens here that supports os and when compared to the iPhone 13 pro max on the left hand side and pixel 6 pro on the right hand side the xiaomi 12 pro in the middle using a 50 megapixel ultrawide sensor does not do a partial bad job it actually gives a nice warm sense to it when compared to the other two devices though it does not have the widest ultrawide field of view around and when binning that ultra-wide shot down four to one binning to 12.5 megapixels it looks indeed better thanks to AI algorithms the 50 megapixel main shot using of course that Imax 707 sensor does a enough decent job compared to these two giants alongside it though it does not feel to be relatively as bright as the pixel 6 pro but of course the pixel 6 pro was bent down because you cannot actually take a raw 50 megapixel shot on the pixel 6 pro for some reason and now bending down the xiaomi 12 pro you can see it brightens effects up once again thanks to AI and also giving it some decent dynamic range the xiaomi 12 pro kicks in its telephoto camera sooner than the other two devices over here since it starts at two times optical zoom but that’s the max optical zoom that you can get with former xiaomi flagships we have seen five times optical using periscope cameras so I guess that is one of the downsides over here and when binning down the telephoto camera from 50 megapixels to 12.5 it looks indeed better but as soon as we move once two times to three times we’re unfortunately kitted with digital zoom on the xiaomi as opposed to the optical zoom on the iPhone 13 pro max which is of course rocking at three times and you can see the clarity is quite a bit ahead in terms of the iPhone when compared to the xiaomi and the pixel.
Since the pixel is still running at three times digital zoom over here using its main sensor but going into four times zoom this is when the Pixel 6 pro shines on the right hand side over there using optical zoom with its periscope telephoto sensor and hopping into 10 times digital zoom across all of them all of them using their respective telephoto or periscope telephoto camera that’s on the pixel at 10 times running digitally you can see that the xiaomi 12 pro is kind of lagging behind the other two phones over here when comparing portrait shots over here between the three devices I feel that the xiaomi kind of darkens effects out a bit here and blurs a bit too much in the background but nonetheless it still does a pretty dam good job with nearly perfect edge detection and taking another portrait shot of my confidant. I actually think the xiaomi’s photo looks better than the other two in terms of lighting it has further dynamic range there’s further detail within the cracks but the detail that’s in the cracks does not give it as much of a natural look as you would see on the iPhone or the Pixel so I guess in retrospect it kind of just over saturates all the colors and when it comes to taking photos in a dim lit situation night mode off over here on all devices and I can assure you that my studio is nearly pitch black curtains closed door shut took this photo at night as well and it looks pretty good on all three of them in terms of not indeed using a night mode because of all the large sensor sizes that we are treated to over here but I can safely say that while the iphone and the pixel are brighter than the xiaomi. The xiaomi is formerly again packing in a many further details and switching night mode on all three bias while formerly again the iphone and pixel are a lot brighter with the pixel being the brightest over here they kind of look a bit artificial it nearly looks like there’s a light shining on them for some reason whereas the xiaomi keeps things nice and neutral but this is presumably because of xiaomi’s new night mode algorithms thanks to that new snapdragon 8 gen1 chipset and when it comes to video of course all three of these devices can shoot 4k at 60 fps all of them nice and smooth I can see a bit of jitteriness on the xiaomi over here but the clarity is still on par with the other devices and when comparing ultrawide the pixel 6 pro is limited to 4k 30 fps where the others can go up to 4k 60 and the iphone has the widest field of view over here with the pixel enough much matching that of the xiaomi in terms of field of view so the iphone actually seems to do better with clarity getting close up and particular to the subject the xiaomi 12 pro can also shoot 8k video though still limited at 24 frames per second it looks nice and clear but it’s a bit jittery it still looks absolutely phenomenal if you ask me though the cameras of the brand new xiaomi 12 pro are fantastic and I cannot wait to deep dive more into them in my full review we have a power button on the right hand side as well as a volume rocker at the bottom we have a dual sim 5g standby tray there’s a water resistant seal over there indeed though it’s not ip certified usb2.0 type c port first you will speaker at the bottom second dual speaker at the top and of course this is paired alongside and Dolby Atmos and we still have an IR blast and turning things to the front of the screen we are treated to a 32 megapixel selfie camera though it isn’t underneath the display like we saw with the mix 4 taking a selfie compared to the iPhone and Pixel. the iphone to me still looks the stylish in terms of detail but I guess just a bit too important detail the xiaomi does not really show as important detail and the pixel surely looks the most natural and when flicking over to the portrait mode over here the xiaomi has enough much no edge detection whatsoever I can see a laddie bit of edge discovery on the pixel 6 pro as well as on the iphone if you look around my cognizance xiaomi does such a great job at edge detection and when it comes to taking a selfie video.
The xiaomi 12 pro is limited to 1080p and 60 fps the pixel 6 pro can also do 1080p and 60 fps but it can also do 4k at 30 and the iphone can do 4k all the way up to 60. it’s a bit of a bummer to not see 4k at least at 30 on the selfie cam but we will deep dive more into this one in the full review in the coming days powering on the device and getting to the optimized miui 13 software which we will touch on in a bit we of course have not always on display here thanks to the amoled panel and we have an under display fingerprint sensor as well once again thanks to it being an amoled panel we have loads of different always on display options and we can have it always on some xiaomi devices cannot always have it on we do have super wallpapers over here the same ones that we saw last time I thought they be new ones but it says stay tuned for new releases so hopefully we get to that there’s new molten glass wallpapers not the biggest fan of them but they look enough I guess classy you could say and turning off the screen you can see that awful super wallpaper and unlocking it with the 2d face unlock which is of course being used by the selfie cam and it does a great job nice and fast but once again not as secure as something that you would see on an iphone with 3d face unlock we’re treated to miui 13 over then running on android 12 it does not relatively feel like a big upgrade more an iterative upgrade but supposedly it’s more about optimizing their device with the hardware inside of it and the software and all that jazz and of course there is google all google stuff works on xiaomi phones as well as the play store and if you want to go to normal widgets it can take you a full 30 seconds to get it and once you get there they are not in alphabetical order so it’s really hard to find and if you do want to search for them by just searching at the top such as searching for youtuber vs since we just made a widget for youtube music it does not find it at all though we still can find it in the widgets menu once we actually deep dive into it we do have a performance mode that we saw recently on miui12.5 performance mode when running AnTuTu which we will get to in a seconds because of the snapdragon 8 gen 1 octa core cpu yielded an antutu score of 1 million 7512 points the highest I have ever seen not indeed ever in terms of antutu version 9. now just like last year’s mi 11 and mi 11 pro we do have a wqhd plus 1440p display but this time we have dynamic refresh rate which we have been asking xiaomi for so long to do but I did enable an fps console within developer options and you can choose between 60 90 and 120 fps which is great you can also use the auto recommended they do recommend to use auto because this is what truly shines in terms of ltpo technology but I never really got an odd number between 1 and 120 it was either sitting at 60 or it was sitting at 90 or it was sitting at 120 so it’s not really stoutly conforming I went through a couple apps and hopefully this does get fixed in a future software updates but that dynamic one to 120 hertz refresh rate panel is paired with 180 hertz touch sampling rates over here it makes for some nice smooth scrolling around we will get to some gaming in the full review but as for the display it’s a 6.73 inch amoled 20 by 9 aspect rate curved display but this time it isn’t quad curved thank goodness I cannot stand the curves at the top and bottom it’s just dual curves on the sides of the device it’s an e5 amoled panel with 1.07 billion colors it’s 10 bit hdr 10 plus dolby vision 112 dcr p3 and 140 srgb color gamut rating we also have a crazy 500 nits peak brightness and further yields to either matching or setting new records on display mate the xiaomi 12 pro might just be the phone to beat in 2022 thanks to its new ltpo display stunning vegan leather back design and promising camera setup but it does have some downsides when compared nonetheless I am extremely agitated to deep dive into all aspects of xiaomi’s latest and greatest smartphone. Well, I hope you found the information valuable so please share your thoughts in the comment section below.
